Insider Tips
Having the right hotel room can make or break your trip in many cases, so we want to prepare you with a few quick tips.
When making your reservation, note your specific preferences, along with your request for a specific “Room Number Series.” For example, if you prefer a corner room, and Tripkick has suggested “02” rooms, make sure to inform the hotel of your request prior to arrival. Most hotels will do their best to accommodate your requests. Also reconfirm your requests upon check in.
Print the Tripkick “Rooms to Request” tab and “Compare Rooms” tab for your reference when checking in.
If you’ve already checked-in, and you’re not satisfied with your room, make sure to change it. Hotels generally have numerous alternatives, so don’t keep your room if you’re not happy with it.
Hotels often have multiple towers or wings, so pay close attention to your room location. For example, one wing may have undergone a complete renovation, while another in the same building has not.
Keep in mind that the Quietest rooms may not have the best views. If you desire peace and quiet, it may face the interior of a building and have no view at all. Pay close attention to this information though, as some hotels do offer quiet rooms with views, particularly on higher floors.
Pay close attention to the Tripkick “Hotel Basics” section, as it provides actual sizes for each room category. For example, you may be paying the same rate for a suite in a 4 Star Hotel, as you would for a standard room in a 5 Star Hotel. Here’s the catch, those two rooms might be the same exact size! Wouldn’t you rather be enjoying the 5 Star Hotel for the same price.
In general, Corner Rooms tend to be larger than most. With some hotels, this may not be the case, but at least you only have one neighbor. On each hotel page, we’ve given you some info on which corner or end rooms to choose.
Many hotels offer “View Rooms”, but there may be some grey area to this categorization. Most hotels do in fact have “Non-View Rooms” that do have a view. Pay close attention to the “Views” section on each hotel page, as you might just score a view room at a non view price.
Surprisingly, hotel rooms do sometimes vary by Floor. Some hotels have opted to renovate only certain floors in the hotel. Others have designed certain floors for loyal guests, so pay close attention to your floor. For example, some hotels feature “preferred floors” which may offer morning coffee or complimentary high speed internet. It’s always worth asking for.
Make sure to Pay Close Attention to the “Loyalty Affiliation” of your hotel. For example, Most Omni Hotels offer complimentary high-speed internet and morning beverages to their Select Guest members. Guess what, membership is free! Make sure to always sign up for Hotel Guest Loyalty programs before making your reservation; sometimes you’ll even score an upgrade.
Most important of all, it never hurts to ask. We’ve found that most hotels will do everything they can to honor your requests, so don’t be bashful.
